Classroom Environment & Curriculum

The primary classrooms focus on developing the building blocks for learning: Concentration, independence, order, and self-confidence.

Children in this age group have an extraordinary capacity to absorb information from their surroundings. The Montessori environment is designed to support children’s affinity for learning at their own periods of interest and readiness.

“Follow the child” is a phrase heard frequently. Primary lessons are taught to individual children or small groups when the children show an interest or teacher observation indicates they are ready for a new skill or concept. Primary classrooms are divided into the following areas: practical life, sensorial, language, math, geometry, cultural studies, art, music and Spanish. In addition, lessons are designed to develop social and motor skills and good work habits.

Family Testimonial

“Our child has attended Montessori School of Huntsville, starting with the infant program (Montessori Mornings) when he was one year old. From our first visit to the classroom, the beautiful, light-filled rooms and orderly presentation of the materials drew us in. We knew this was where we wanted our child to be (could we also spend our days here??). Being part of this Montessori community has not only helped our child learn and grow, but it has helped us as parents to focus on all of the amazing things he is capable of and let him do those things independently as he is ready. We do not doubt that the education and experience our child is getting and has received are setting him up for success academically and beyond.”
